Darkness Falls – 3

Third Chapter of Darkness Falls.

A few hours later I’m still in the principals office waiting for the police to question me. Lexi and Karter tried to get in a few times but were escorted out by the secretary. I turn to look out the window and notice of crowd people trying to catch a glimpse of me. They probably think I’m insane or that I got into another fight. Wait until they hear the real story.
“Miss Brighton you may come in.” I hear a police officer say. I look up and see him pointing to the room nearest to him. I slowly get up and make my way in as he shuts the door behind me. Not a very friendly man.

“Ahh Miss Brighton we finally get to talk. My name is officer Wilkons you may have a seat.” Officer Wilkons says as he points to an empty chair across the room from him. I nod and quickly take my seat waiting for the questioning to be over and to be able to rest at home.
“Would you like some water?” Officer Wilkons asks me. I shake my head, “I would really just like to get the questioning done if you don’t mind sir. It was a pretty rough day.”

He nods in agreement and picks up a pen and a notebook from the principals desk. “Why were you in the third floor bathroom Miss Brighton. I heard from the janitors and other staff of the school that nobody uses that bathroom anymore.” He asks me.
I look him straight in the eye so he wouldn’t think I was bluffing. “Its really private. If I need time to myself or just need to relax I always go up there.”
He jots some notes onto the paper. “What was Mr. Anderson doing up there with you?”
“I guess when I left the cafeteria he was making sure I was alright. He probably followed me up there.”

“Do you know anyone that would do this?” He asks again not even glancing down at his notebook.
I shake my head no.
He sighs, “Well then you can go now. I have to question Mr. Anderson after this. Officer Barks.”
As if he was listening in on the whole conversation the rude officer from before opens up the door and points out of the room like I’m not smart enough to know my own way out. I walk out the door quickly and out of the office so I wouldn’t have to see Etienne again. What a weirdo.

“Ely!” I hear Lexi calling to me. I turn around and see her running down the hall, Karter right behind her. I noticed that no one else was outside of the office anymore.
“Where did everyone go?” I ask and look around to make sure they weren’t going to jump out at me.
“Oh, they got sent back to they’re classes. Me and Karter got bathroom passes and came back here to make sure you were alright. So what happened? When Etienne followed you out did he rhape you or something?” Lexi asks with her eyes wide open.

“No! Of course not! There was a dead deer in the bathroom stall. I totally freaked and ran out.” I say. Lexi gives me a curious look. “Where was Etienne?” She asks.
“I have no idea. I didn’t even see him up there. He probably followed Lesley out or something. I saw her walking out the other side of the cafeteria.” I suggest and turn away quickly.
Lexi shrugs. “Oh well its his loss! Your so much better then that diva Lesley anyway.” Lexi gives me a hug.
“Yeah and your way too good for that Etienne kid! You’ve got me still babes remember?” Karter says and puts his arm around my shoulder to give me an awkward hug.

I laugh at my friends. Etienne didn’t even cross my mind all the way too Karters car.
“Did you guys get passes out or something?” I ask as Lexi and Karter follow me out of the school.
They stop and shrug. “Nah but we’ll be okay. Whats one detention?” Karter says and smiles at me.

We jump into Karters car as he squeels out of the parking lot. “Slow down!” I yell as I fall against the door. “Sorry.” He mumbles and slows down to forty even though the speed limit is twenty.
“So what did the officer dudes ask you anyway?” Lexi says from the backseat.
I shrug, “Nothing really. It wasn’t even real questioning. CSI has better cops and they’re fake.” I mumble.
Karter laughs and slows down to twenty as he sees a cop ahead of us. “So where are we off too ladies?”
“MACCY D’S!” Lexi shouts.
“We just ate lunch and its Mcdonalds or MICKEY D’S.” I say to her.
She gives me this sad look and pushes her lower lip out so she is doing a bad imitation of a sad puppy. I turn away. “Fine. MICKEY D’s it is.” I say.
“YAY!” Lexi shouts again making me cover my ears.

Karter pulls into a parking space at Mcdonalds and we all jump out. I see my favorite table open and run over to get it while Karter and Lexi put in the order. Lexi comes running up to me with two sodas in her hands and goes to sit next to me.
“Did you see that hot guy in the front?” Lexi says elbowing me in the ribs.
“Ow and no I didn’t. I was sitting back here the whole time.” I say and try to stand up a tad to try to look over the wall blocking my vision of the front counter. Lexi pulls me down. “Hes not there anymore. Hes sitting on the other side of the room looking at you.” She says.
I look over Lexi’s shoulder and see a tall muscular brown haired boy staring at me. I turn away and try to look busy drinking my soda. “What are you doing?” Lexi asks me. “I’m tired of abercrombie looking models. They are not my type.” I say and keep drinking.

Lexi looks back over at the guy and smiles at me. “Too late. Hes coming over.” She says. A second later the guy is sitting across the table from me.
“My name is Lance and you are?” I look down at the table hoping that he is talking to Lexi.
“Her name is Elysant and I’m Lexi. Over there is our friend Karter. Nice to meet you.” I hear her say. I sigh. What is going on? Just one change of wardrobe and all of a sudden these two guys are interested in me?
I look up at Lance and look back down. Although he wasn’t exactly as cute as Etienne he was pretty nice to look at. He has short dark hair with the brightest blue-green eyes that you can easily get hypnotized looking at. He sort of had this scruffy beard/mustache thing going on like he was trying to grow it out but wasn’t really working. The one thing I didn’t like about him was that he had an earring, also the fact that he looked mysterious. Mysterious scared me.

“Hey there!” I hear Karter. I look up at him and see the confused expression on his face as he sees Lance sitting in his spot.
“I’m sorry am I in the way?” Lance asks.
He didn’t sound as rude as it may have seemed to sound coming from anyone else. Karter looks away at Lance and stares at me. “Is he?” Karter asks.
“No, hes okay. Sit down Karter we can squeeze in one more.” I tell him.
Karter takes one more questioning look at Lance and then sits down beside him.
“So I take it your over Etienne?” Karter asks me.
I shoot him an evil glare but he glares at me back. One thing about Karter, don’t try to out glare him. He’ll win every time.
I look away. “Yeah. I wasn’t really interested to be begin with. He was cute sure but I didn’t really know him and now I don’t think I want too.” I say.

“Why is that?” Lance asks me.
“Oh, shes just upset because he went off to go follow this other girl out of the cafeteria.” Lexi jumps in.
“That’s not true. I really didn’t like him even before that. He can have her.” I mumble and take another sip of my soda.
I feel someone looking at me and look up to see Lance staring at me with a questioning look on his face.
“Can I help you?” I ask him sounding completely rude.
He smiles. “Why yes you can. If this Etienne guy didn’t work out for you because you didn’t get to know each other may I ask you if your free this evening so I may take you out and get to know you?”

My mouth drops open but I immediately recover. “No you may not. Just because you came over here and are eating lunch with us doesn’t mean that I’de go out with you.”
“Oh? Why don’t you give it a shot. Maybe you’ll enjoy having me as company.” He says.
“She would love too. Pick her up at this address at eight o’ clock. I’ll have her ready for you.” Lexi says as she hands him a napkin revealing her address.
I shoot her an evil look which she completely ignores.
“Fantastic. See you then.” Lance says. He stands up but instead of waiting for Karter to get out of his way he jumps over the top of the booth and lands on the ground cleanly like it was no effort at all.

“Wow, what a weird guy.” Karter says and takes a big bite out of his sandwich.
“No kidding. What were you thinking setting me up on a date with him?” I ask Lexi. She smiles at me. “Oh give it a try. You really might actually like him.” She says. I sigh. Might as well now that I can’t bail on him. Besides it would get my mind off of Etienne anyway.

After begging my mom to let me spend the night at Lexi’s house even though it was a school night she finally agreed so I grabbed my backpack with a few over night things and shoved them in. As soon as Lexi pulled up in her moms car I ran out the door and jumped in.
“Nervous much?” She asks me smiling.
“You think?! This is my first date.” I say and try to slow down my beating heart that seemed to be going faster then usual.
“Whatever. I’ve got the perfect outfit for you to wear and I know your just going to absolutely love it.” Lexi says.
I brought a sweater and jeans. I knew that Lexi wouldn’t agree to me wearing that but I was hoping. Apparently I wasn’t going to even be able to ask her.
When Lexi pulled into her driveway she jumped out and ran to my side of the car opening it up. She grabs my arm and pulls me towards the house, running up the stairs into her bedroom.

“What is wrong with you?” I ask her.
“My mom hasn’t left yet for her date and she told me she was going to be gone the whole night. She would not let me have you over so right now you’ve got to keep quiet until she leaves okay?” She asks me.
I nod. “Okay. Here! Try on this dress.” Lexi says as she throws something at me.
I gasp. “Are you crazy?” I ask.
“Not at all but I know it would look totally fabulous on you.” She smiles at me and pushes me towards her bathroom to change.
I close the door and throw on the black satin dress that she gave me. It was absolutely luscious. I looked in her full length mirror and gasped. My skin was so pale white against the black satin that I almost looked like a ghost. My bangs and the back of my hair seemed longer then usual. More shiney also. My eyes seemed to glow even more gold as I looked in the mirror even longer.

I jumped when I heard knocking on the door. “My mom left! You can come out now.” I heard Lexi say on the other side. I take one deep breath and open the door. She is hugging me in a second. “You look gorgeous! I told you you would!” She yells.
“Your making me step on the dress!.” I yell at her and push her away.
“Isn’t it just absolutely fabulous? I came home and saw it on the front steps. I thought it was my moms for her date tonight but she said she never ordered a dress. I thought it was fate and decided you needed to wear it.” She said all giddy with joy.
I smile at my best friend. “It is perfect and I have to admit I look pretty good in it.” I say to her as I admire myself in the mirror again.
“Here let me do your make up!” She tells me and makes me sit down in a chair.
“No way! I just want some eyeliner and lip gloss thats it!” I yell at her.
“oh stop being a baby.”
“No way! That’s all I want okay Lexi?”
“Fine.” She mumbles.

I feel her putting something on around my eyes knowing that it was eyeliner. I felt her dab at my lips with a kleenex and something that felt soft and smooth. A brush probably to apply lip gloss. Then I feelt something brush against my cheek. I jump out of the seat. “I said that was all I wanted!” I yell at her.
She stands up smiling at me. “Oh just let me put some blush on you please?” She asks me. Usually I would have said no but seeing that she had leant me this gorgeous dress I didn’t have the heart too. “Oh alright. Just not too much.” I tell her.
Lexi nods her head quickly and finnishes applying the final touches of the make up.”There! All pretty” She says as she stands out of the way so I can look in the mirror.
So I had to admit. The blush was a good idea. It didn’t make my skin look too white and it gave me a lot more color. I smile up at her. She smiles back.
“Oh! Its almost eight! Let me go grab the shoes!” She says and runs out of the room.

A minute later she is huffing and puffing back into the room with a black pair of strap on sandals that looked more like ballet slippers then shoes.
“Are you crazy?” I ask her.
“Uh..no! I know this will look nice on you Ely! Please try them on!?” She frowns at me. I sigh. “Fine!” I say.
She smiles and runs over pushing me back into the chair and tying the slipper like sandals onto my feet. She smiles obviously impressed.
“There! You are all finished” She tells me. I look down and smile. Lexi was right. The slipper like sandals did look nice with the dress.
“Lets go wait downstairs.” She says and pulls me out of the room. “Your going to rip my arm off!” I yell at her. She laughs at my babyness and keeps running down the stairs plopping me down on the couch. As soon as my butt touches the cushion the doorbell rings. “Right on time.” I mumble and stand up.

Lexi skips over to the door and opens it. As soon as she sees whos outside her smile quickly fades and turns pure evil. “What are you doing here?” She asks.
“I want to see Ely. I needed to apologize from the way I was acting earlier.”
I recognize the voice immediately. Etienne.
